Irish ball players win No.1 seed

The Maple Lake baseball team ended its regular season with another win, giving them a 17-2 record and the No. 1 seed going into playoffs next week.
The Irish bettered its record with a 5-1 win over Providence Academy on Tuesday, May 16, on the road.
Maple Lake pushed one runner across the plate in the first and third innings, but it wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Irish pulled away and secured the win. Ben Clapp and Nate Hogan each hit singles for three runs that inning. Providence Academy scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. Hunter Malachek earned the win on the mound. He threw seven innings, gave up one run, five hits and struck out eight. The Irish had 10 hits for the game. Ben and Brock Goelz and Hogan each had two hits to lead the Irish. As a team, Maple Lake didn’t commit a single error in the
field.
