Rain threatened, but did not fall, Monday, May 29, during Maple Lake’s annual Memorial Day service to remember veterans who gave their lives for their country.
A crowd gathered at the city park under overcast skies, Monday morning, to await the arrival of a solemn procession made up of American Legion Post 131 and V.F.W Post 7664 colors, guards and firing squad, Legion Commander Gary Jude, retired major from the Army National Guard Shelley Hermes and more, who made their way down Birch Avenue to Division Street and the Veteran’s Memorial.
A few people gathered along the route to watch in respectful silence as they passed, led by the Maple Lake Fire Department and marching in rhythm to the steady beat of Maple Lake High School drummers.
