Loaded with strong pitching, Hercules hitting and the kind of chemistry that comes with deep friendship and trust, the Maple Lake softball team could be said to have it all.
The proverbial dream team, the Irish will open the Minnesota State High School League State Tournament, Thursday, June 8, with a 24-0 record, rated No. 1 in State Class AA, and looking to finish the season with perfection.
“It would be awesome to go 27-0, a perfect season. That would be something to talk about for ages,” senior catcher Morgan Scheiber said.
A state championship is an attainable goal for these athletes. Since the Irish kicked off the season on April 4 with a 5-1 win over Annandale, Maple Lake has powered its way to 13 shutouts, including three in the Section 5AA tournament alone. The team allowed only one run on its way to a section title on Thursday, June 1, when the girls defeated Annandale 7-1 for their state tournament berth.
