The final Christopher Schneider Bass Tournament on Maple Lake was a resounding success, Saturday, July 15, with Brad Seiwert and David Snyder winning the top prize of $400 with their catch that totaled 18 pounds, 4 ounces.
Contestants submit six fish for a total weight, and the heftiest bag is the winner. Jeff Nelson and Tony Foecke finished second with their 18 pounds, 2-ounce bag for $150. The Nelson/Foecke team also won the biggest fish by reeling in a 4-pound, 8-ounce bass.
The 13th annual event was the last for organizers Barb and Bob Schneider who use the proceeds to provide scholarships to local graduating seniors. After this year, the Schneiders will have given away a grand total of $22,000 in scholarships.
During the award ceremony, the couple’s son, Matthew Schneider, presented them with an ornate plaque bearing the names of all the tournament winners over the last 13 years. At its center is a picture of Christopher Schneider, in whose memory the tournament is dedicated.
