County approves moving forward with gravel pit expansion

The current configuration of the Wright County Board includes four commissioners in their fifth year on the board. There aren’t too many things they haven’t seen in the process of conducting more than 200 board meetings. But, at the Sept. 12 meeting of the county board, the commissioners were facing a first – discussion of a gravel pit mining operation and what is required to move forward in terms of environmental projection.
Wright County Environmental Health Officer Bill Stephens came before the board with an exhaustive document – an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for a proposed expansion of a gravel pit in Silver Creek Township. Stephens explained to the commissioners the process by which conditional use permits for such facilities are granted or denied.
