New filter means cleaner water for Mink and Somers

Mink and Somers lakes, about three miles north of Maple Lake, are on their way to cleaner waters thanks to the completion of a limestone filtration system.
Crews put the finishing touches on the project last week, and now everyone involved is just waiting for enough rain to see how it works.
“I’m extremely excited to see the results once we get some rain and it fills up the lowlands and starts flowing through our filter so we can analyze it,” said Dan Hinrichs, president of the Lake Association of Mink Somers (TAMS), and chairman of the Mink Somers Lake Improvement District (MSLID) Board.
