Halloween in Maple Lake gets started this week with the 42nd Annual Halloween Carnival at Maple Lake Elementary.
Put on by the Maple Lake PTA, with help from the Maple Lake Lions and other local businesses, the community event is open to all children, whether they are MLE students or not. There will be food, snacks, new prizes, an assortment of games, and a costume contest, all from 3 to 5 p.m. at the elementary school, Saturday, Oct. 28.
New to the event this year is the cake walk. Donations of store-bought baked items will be taken up until Saturday morning, Oct. 28, organizer Jennifer Fritz said. Fritz is co-chairing the carnival with the help of Beth Lee and Sara Peterson.
“About 40 to 60 baked goods are needed. This is a great way for families who can’t volunteer in other ways to help out,” Fritz said.
Also new this year is the raffle. Two weeks ago, letters were sent to area businesses looking for donations of gift cards which carnival organizers hope to arrange in a basket to be raffled off at the party.
