Gymnasts win again at home

The Maple Lake gymnastics teams came out on top at another outing last week and broke a couple records on its way. The girls defeated Litchfield 132.75 to 129.15, Thursday, Dec. 21, at home, led by Gracie Elsenpeter’s five first-place finishes. Elsenpeter stole the show by winning in every event, from vault to overall. Meanwhile, at the junior varsity level, Eva McClelland broke the floor record of 8.3 which was set by Courtney Pribyl back in 2010, and the JV team broke the overall team record of 28.4 that was set last year with Thursday night’s score of 28.85. The Irish varsity gymnasts also took home three second-place finishes and one third on their way to their team victory. Elsenpeter scored a 9.5 on the vault to win; Shauni Johnson finished fourth with an 8.8; Oliva Latour was fifth with an 8.75; Eva McClellan was eighth with an 8.6 and Abby Gagnon was ninth with an 8.55. Elsenpeter led the bars with an 8.6; Susie Rieber was fourth with a 7.3; Latour was fifth with a 7.3; Johnson was ninth with a 6.4; and Brooke Mergen was 10th with a 6.3. The Irish claimed the top three spots on the beam starting with Elsenpeter’s 8.6. Latour finished second with an 8.4 and Gagnon was third with an 8.3. Rieber and Mergen rounded out scoring with ninth and 10th, respectively. Rieber scored a 7.25 and Mergen a 6.5.
