The Annandale-Maple Lake wrestling team won two and lost two at two outings last week. On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Lightning hosted a triangular with four evenly-matched teams. The Lightning kicked off the event with a two-point loss to Minnewaska. “It was an exciting dual featuring a team that has several ranked wrestlers,” coach Ben Youngs said. Down 21-6, one of the featured matches took place with two ranked wrestlers, ANML’s Quinn Youngs and Mason Blair, of Minnewaska. Youngs proved too much for Blair, winning by technical fall. Pins by Jack Klug and Hunter Manka put the Lightning back in business. Minnewaska had a couple of ranked wrestlers in the next three weights, and they beat a sick Walker Weege and Mitch Bergstrom, though Adam Neumann got a big win at 170. “Walker had a stomach illness but battled through it, like a senior captain should, and even though he didn’t win we were proud of his efforts,” Youngs said. After newcomer Daniel Luna picked up a huge pin, Cuyler Helwig came out firing against one of Minnewaska’s ranked wrestlers. He was up 8-3, but got caught and pinned, then first-year wrestler Josh Lanctot lost a close match. ANML beat HL-W-W 60-18 in its second match of the evening.
