Moose Skaters Fall to Champlin Park, Tie With Little Falls

By Brenda Erdahl, Sports Editor. The Monticello boys hockey team played two close games last week.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the Moose came up just a little short against Champlin Park, falling 4- 3 to the metro area team. On Thursday, Jan. 25, the Moose tied with Little Falls, 2-2. Both games were played at Moose Sherritt Ice Arena in Monticello.

After last week’s action the Moose are 14-3-2 overall and 7- 1-0 in Mississippi 8 Conference standings.

Champlin Park took a commanding lead in the first periods. By the third, Monticello was up against a 3-0 lead. Nick Foldesi started scoring for the home team. Tyler Anderson followed with another goal assisted by Troy Dahlheimer, and Jeffrey Henrikson of Maple Lake to close the gap to 2-3.

Champlin Park slipped another goal past the Moose goalie Tyler Klatt which Troy Dahlheimer matched less than a minute later for the final 3-4 score.

Klatt made 23 saves of 26 attempts on goal.

On Thursday, the Flyers put the first points on the board after a scoreless first period. Jake Friede put Monticello on the board at 11:43 of the second period. The Flyers scored another goal to take a 2-1 lead going into the third. Tyler Anderson scored the game tying goal for Monticello. Neither team scored in overtime.

Klatt saved 20 of 22 shots made on goal.

The Moose were scheduled to play this week on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Litchfield. On Thursday, Feb. 1, Monticello will host St. Michael-Albertville at 7 p.m
