By Brenda Erdahl, Sports Editor. The Irish girls basketball teamed cruised to two more Central Minnesota Conference wins last week making them 11-5 Overall and 6-3 in the CMC.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23, Maple Lake met the Pierz Pioneers for the first time this season. The Irish led from start to finish to cruise to a 62-50 victory. On Friday, Jan. 26, Maple Lake hosted Kimball and won 57- 44.

The Irish used full court pressure and some fast break opportunities, Tuesday at Pierz, to gain a sizeable lead in the first half over the Pioneers. The Maple Lake ball handlers scored a season high 33 points. The score was 33-19 at the break. Continuing to use the same defensive pressure, the Irish were able to stretch that lead to as many as 21 points halfway through the second half.

Linsey Rachel led the Irish scoring attack with 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Calli Maki scored a career high 16 points and led the Irish with five assists. Catie Fobbe “played her best game to date,” coach Adam Ronnenberg said, scoring eight points and pulling down three rebounds.

“It’s always nice to win on the road especially coming off a difficult loss the previous week. Great energy from the girls that led to this team win,” Ronnenberg said. Maple Lake shot a “blistering” 50 percent from the floor compared to just 41 percent for Pierz, Tuesday night and tied a season low 12 turnovers.

The Irish also got back to their solid rebounding ways against the Pioneers, pulling down 32 to Pierz’s 24.
