By Brenda Erdahl, Sports Editor: The Maple Lake boys basketball team won two games on the road last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 9, Maple Lake defeated Litchfield 62- 52, then on Thursday, Jan. 11, the Irish downed Central Minnesota Conference foe Belgrade- Brooten-Elrosa 82-54. The Maple Lake team is now 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the CMC. The Irish played yet another good game of “team basketball” against the Dragons, Tuesday. Maple Lake was up 24-19 by the break, then outscored Litchfield 38-33 in the second half to win by 10 points. Mitch Hoisted led scoring for the Irish with 20 points against the Dragons; he also had six rebounds and two assists. Joseph Stokman scored 16 points, gathered three rebounds, and had one assist. Cole Trager contributed nine points along with five rebounds. “We have been pretty consistent on both ends of the floor over the last few games,” coach Tim Staloch said. “Our players are understanding the importance of team basketball and we are seeing positive consequences of that teamwork.” The Irish shot 41 percent from the field and were 11 for 32 from the three-point line. They also shot 56 percent from the free throw line and had 10 turnovers to Litchfield’s 15.
