MLHS One-Act Play Team to Perform “Orphan Trains”

The Maple Lake High School One-Act Play team will present “Orphan Trains,” Thursday, Jan. 25, during a public performance before heading to subsection competition on Saturday, Jan. 27. From 1853 to 1929, The Orphan Trains Project joined adoptive parents with orphans in countless towns throughout the vast American landscape. The play is based on primary records from the Children’s Aid Society of New York. According to Playscripts Inc., “Orphan Trains” is a “compelling story of hardships and victories of life, resonating with the authentic voices of a diverse group of children.” Eighteen students in grades eight through 12 at MLHS comprise this year’s one-act team. On Saturday, the group will travel to Paynesville where the young actors will compete against five other high school teams for the right to advance to sections. Thursday’s public performance begins at 6 p.m. and takes place in the MLHS auditorium
