Moose Hockey Wins Three More

By Brenda Erdahl, Sports Editor. The Monticello boys hockey team won three games last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 16, the Moose traveled to Mora where they came away with a 5-3 victory. On Thursday, Jan. 18, Monticello hosted St. Francis and cruised to a 7-2 win and on Saturday, Jan. 20, the Moose traveled to Cambridge- Isanti where they dominated 6-1. Troy Dahlheimer put the Moose on the board with assists by Chase Bocken and Nick Foldesi a little more than five minutes into the first period against Mora. Mora responded with two goals to end the period with a 2-1 lead.

Monticello dominated the second period with goals by Dahlheimer, Luke Frucci, and Jack Saunders. Mora scored one last goal at the end of that period. Monticello tacked on a final goal in the third for the win. Moose goalie Collin Soderholm saved 13 of 16 shots on goal. Devon Lyons, a Maple Lake senior, started scoring for the Moose with an even strength goal assisted by Kayle Bocken early in the second period against St. Francis. Frucci and Maple Lake sophomore Jeffrey Henrickson added two more goals to give the Moose a 3-0 lead going into the final period. St. Francis responded with a goal of its own early in the third. The Moose answered with a goal by Dahlheimer before St. Francis scored again. Monticello secured the win with goals by Henrikson, Dahlheimer and Lyons. Tyler Klatt stopped 21 of 23 shots on goal for the Moose.

Henrikson provided three goals in Saturday’s win over Cambridge-Isanti. He started scoring for the Moose at 2:32 of the first period, then added another goal a couple minutes later with an assist by Jake Friede. Jacob Sorenson scored on a power play with help from Matt Miller before Henrikson’s final goal to end the period. Cambridge-Isanti scored its lone goal at 3:44 of the second period. Monticello’s Huntley Hinz and Bocken finished out the scoring with two more goals for the Moose. The third period remained scoreless. Klatt stopped 17 of 18 shots on goal for Monticello. On Thursday, Jan. 25, Monticello will host Little Falls at 7 p.m. On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Moose will travel to Litchfield to take on the Dragons at 7 p.m.
