Saint John’s University junior guard David Stokman and graduate of Maple Lake High School was named the MIAC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, and third time of his career, on Monday, Jan. 22. Stokman missed last Wednesday’s game against Macalester due to the flu but returned to lead all scorers with 26 points on 10 of 16 shooting, including a 4-for-8 performance from three-point range, in the Johnnies’ 77-62 win Saturday over St. Thomas. Stokman scored 20 or more points for the third time this season and 14th of his career. Stokman shot 62.2 percent (28-for-45) from the field and averaged 21.3 points in his last four games against the Tommies. He was named the MIAC Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week earlier this season on Dec. 18. Monday night’s (Jan. 22) Saint John’s basketball home game against Gustavus Adolphus was postponed due to the snowfall in southern Minnesota, and rescheduled for 7 p.m. next Monday, Jan. 29, in Sexton Arena. The No. 12 SJU (14-1, 10-0 MIAC) takes its 12-game win streak to Hamline for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in St. Paul.
