The Maple Lake boys basketball team won one and lost one last week to make them 13-4 overall and 7-1 in the Central Minnesota Conference.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Irish traveled to Pierz where they defeated the Pioneers 73- 50.
On Friday, Feb. 2, Maple Lake hosted Kimball and fell 41-39. Both were CMC games.
The Irish played a solid game on offense and defense against the Pioneers. Maple Lake out-rebounded Pierz 37- 30 and shot 53 percent from the field over Pierz’s 34.
The Irish were 38-22 by the break, then outscored the Pioneers 35-28 in the second half.
Mitch Hoistad led scoring with 21 points; he also had four rebounds and two assists. Joseph Stockman contributed 14 points, plus three rebounds and one assist. Alex Toedter stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 13 rebounds, and two assists.
“The guys continue to do a nice job moving the ball on offense working to find a good shot,” coach Tim Staloch said. “Defensively we were able to disrupt their offense enough, so they couldn’t find a rhythm. We did a nice job forcing them into tough shots.”
