Letters to the Editor

I’m writing to publicly announce my candidacy for the Wright County Sheriff’s seat in the upcoming election.

I have served with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office since 1993. During my tenure I have been assigned to seven different divisions or units including the Adult Detention Division, the Training Division, the Narcotics Unit, the Service Division, the Patrol Division, the Canine Unit, and the Employee Development Unit.

In addition to my service with Hennepin County, I am involved with the United States Police Canine Association, Special Olympics, Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, National Rifle Association, and local youth athletics.

I have had an interest in law enforcement since I was in the Boy Scouts Explorer program as a child. While in college, I was a Reserve Police Officer. It was there I received even more law enforcement training from officers, some of who are still in the profession.

Having spent the last 40 plus years living in Wright County, I am committed and dedicated to this community and look forward to bringing my perspective and experience to the table.

Here are a few key things I want residents to know I believe in as I seek their votes and support as sheriff:

• I believe in community engagement and outreach. I want to work hand in hand with community leaders and address the needs presented. I’d also like to know more about the citizens and business owners in our community and foster partnerships.

• I believe in training and education. I want to ensure that our deputies are receiving the training and equipment necessary to do their jobs and in turn, I want our deputies to feel as though this is a fulfilling career versus just a job.

• I plan on self funding my campaign and will not be asking for, nor accepting any donations. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office is the 3rd largest sheriff’s office in the state, with the largest patrol division of all 87 Minnesota sheriff’s departments.

I believe that the Wright County Sheriff’s Office deserves trusted leadership and transparency that will ensure a safe community for its citizens, business owners and visitors and I believe that with my experience and perspective, I can help. This is, in part, why I am announcing my candidacy for Wright County Sheriff and thank you for helping me announce this decision.

Respectfully, Stacy Braun
