Rita June Schoen, 70, of Watkins, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at her home following a long battle with cancer. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. Father Aaron Nett will officiate. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and step grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be great grandchildren. Interment will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday as well as from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Rita was born on May 13, 1947 in St. Cloud to George and Sadie (Jansen) Wurm. She graduated from Maple Lake High School in 1966 and attended St. Benedict College in St, Joseph. On July 6, 1968, Rita was united in marriage to Charlie Schoen in Minneapolis. They resided in Minneapolis, St. Michael, and Watkins. She was employed as a scanner/coordinator for Jubilee Foods in St. Michael for many years. Rita and Charlie were co-owners of TC’s Bar in Watkins from 1991 to 1993 and co-owners of Bud’s Bar in Watkins from 2002 to 2008.
Rita was a former member of the St. Michael Catholic Church in St. Michael and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. She loved the holidays and spending time with family and friends at the cabin. She enjoyed camping, playing cards, and trips to the casino.
Rita is survived by her husband, Charlie Schoen of Watkins; children Lisa (Mike) Donnay of Watkins, Bret (Keri) Schoen of Monticello, Jason (Missy) Schoen of St. Michael; step-children Tim (Cindy) Schoen of Montrose, Vickie (Gary) Lamon of Clearwater; grandchildren Matt, Mackenzy, and Spencer Schoen, Travis, Tara, Tiffany and Tasha Donnay, Breanna, Ben, Bret, Jr., and Bryce Schoen, Justus Lind and Charlie Schoen; step-grandchildren Clifford and Hannah Snabb, Daniellle and Kayla Schoen; great-grandchildren Baili and Payton Schoen, Brody and Blair Pauls, Aubrey Sina and Treyce Donnay; brothers and sisters Bob (Carol) Wurm of Maple Lake, Keith (Sandy) Wurm of Maple Lake, Joyce (Jessie) Clayton of Emily, Dorothy (Jim) McHugh of Burnsville.28
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Sadie Wurm; son, Kevin Schoen; brothers, Melvin, Maurice, and Richard Wurm.
