Swimming to State

The Buffalo boys swim and dive team will send five athletes to state thanks to stellar performances at the Section 8AA meet, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23 and 24 at Elk River.

Maple Lake sophomore Dakota Malwitz was chosen as an alternate after placing first in his heat for ninth overall in the 200 free.

“Our boys swim and dive team had an excellent section meet this weekend. Our 200 free relay re-broke our school record from earlier in the season and is advancing to state. Our 400 free relay is the first relay in program history to take first place at sections and just missed setting a new school record by 2/10th of a second,” head coach Pam Brophy said.

The Bison had 40 swimmers improve their times, and earned a total of 22 medals. The team’s third place finish is the highest section finish in program history. Buffalo was also tied for top Section 8 AA Academic honors, earning a Silver Academic Standard.

Malwitz dropped 1.79 seconds off his time and is “very proud to be a part of this team,” Tanya Malwitz said.

Team members going to state as part of the advancing relays are Max Menzemer, Triston Kosek, and Parker Kabe. Kabe will also advance in the 500 as an individual thanks to his second place performance last weekend. Alternates include Malwitz, Marco Maffei, Carter Barton, Cael Tuchtenhagen, and Will Bofenkamp.
