The Maple Lake High School speech team did well at two events recently.
On Friday, March 3, the Irish traveled to Fridley for a ninth through 12 grade competition.
Mike Miller won the extemporaneous speaking category while Lucy Greenhagen finished fourth and Jacob Fynboh was sixth in the same event. Mary Miller finished sixth in great speeches and Kianna Johnson took home an honorable mention in serious drama.
The team ranking was unavailable at press time.
On Saturday, March 10, Maple Lake traveled to Dassel-Cokato where they finished fifth as a team.
Mike Miller did well in extemporaneous speaking again, finishing second overall. Greenhagen was fourth in extemporaneous speaking; Mary Miller was second in Great Speeches and Emily Miller was seventh in the save category. Emily Miller and Katie Goelz finished sixth in duo interpretation; Emma Payne was seventh in creative expression and Natalie Neumann was seventh in serious prose.
On Thursday, March 22, the Irish speech team will travel to Pierz High School for the Central Minnesota Conference Invitational. The event starts at 4 p.m.
