Irish Track and Field Teams do Well in Opener

The Maple Lake boys and girls track teams kicked off the season with an early Central Minnesota Conference meet indoors at St. Cloud State University, Friday, March 23.

The Irish girls finished third at the seven-team event, and the boys placed sixth.

Leading the girls with top finishes were Gracie Elsenpeter, Sophie Pribyl and Maggie Larson.

Elsenpeter won two of her three events, finishing first in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.39; first in the pole vault with her 8-foot jump; and fourth in the 400-meter dash in 1:10.13. Pribyl won the 3,200-meter run for the Irish in 13:09; and Larson won the triple jump for Maple Lake with a leap of 34-feet, 6 inches. Larson was also second in the long jump with a finish of 15-feet, 9-inches.

Other Maple Lake athletes placed in the top 10 at this first outing. Callie Lefave was seventh in the 55-meter dash in 8.72; Anna Zaske was eighth in the 800-meter run in 3:06; Grace Praska was fifth in the 3,200-meter run in 13:52; the Irish 4×100 team was second in 58.33; the 4×200 relay team was sixth in 2:07.64; the 4×400 relay team was fifth in 4:45.80; the 4×800 relay team was second in 11:06.2; Shauni Johnson was sixth in the high jump with a finish of 4-feet, 1-inch; Bionca Peterson finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 7- feet; Catie Fobbe was third in the shot put with a throw of 35-feet, 6-inches; and Bri Deringer finished fifth in the shot put with a throw of 33-feet, 5-inches.
