The doozie of a snowstorm that hit the area last weekend dropped about a foot of snow on Maple Lake, and caused the Minnesota Department of Transportation to recommend no travel on Highway 55 from Kimball eastward through all of Wright County because of blizzard-like conditions, Saturday, April 14.
The late-season storm started Friday, April 13 with snow, sleet, and rain with a little bit of thunder thrown in and lots of wind. The wind and snow continued overnight into Saturday and snow fell throughout the day on Sunday causing Maple Lake Schools to open two-hours late, Monday, April 16. St. Cloud reported 5.8 inches on the ground, but the metro saw the brunt of the snowfall with close to 15 inches recorded at the Minneapolis Airport.
