Golfers finish 3rd in CMC

Irish golfers finished the Central Minnesota Conference season last week in the third-place position.

Individually, Devon Lyons also finished third in the CMC.

Maple Lake kicked off the week at Prairie View Golf Course in Brooten Friday morning, May 18.

Lyons earned medalist honors by shooting a 42. Joe Stokman and Sam Zappa both shot 44s and Ben Weese and Jackson Gallagher both scored 46s.

As a team the Irish finished third with 176 strokes. Eden Valley- Watkins-Kimball tied for first with Pierz with 175 strokes; Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa was fourth with 179; Osakis was fifth with 191; Paynsville finished sixth with 210 and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted was seventh with 300.

Ben Weese and Jackson Gallagher led the Irish to its third place finish later that same day in Osakis with their low scores of 45 that earned them medalist honors. Lyons contributed a 47, Stokman shot a 48 and Zappa a 49.

Weese and Gallagher shot their two lowest career back-toback CMC rounds Friday, coach Pat Groehler said.

The team again finished third, this time with 185 strokes. EVW- K won with 180; Pierz was second with 182; B-B-E was fourth with 189; Osakis was fifth with 200; Paynesville was sixth with 219 and HL-W-W was seventh with 300.

When all was said and done EV-W-K secured the No. 1 position in the CMC and Pierz was second.

Individually, Stokman, Zappa and Gallagher shot well enough this season to finish among the top 20 in CMC standings.

The section tournament is scheduled for Thursday, May 31 at Pebble Creek in Becker. Times were not available at press time.
