The Irish softball team will go into another section tournament with a flawless 20-0 record.

Maple Lake sealed the deal with three more wins last week, earning the No. 1 seed along the way and yet another Central Minnesota Conference title. Last year the Irish went undefeated until the state finals where they lost to defending 2A champions Zumbrota-Mazeppa.

Coming off exciting wins in Fargo the week before, the Irish cruised to a 9-2 victory over Kimball on Tuesday, May 15 to kick off the series.

The Maple Lake ball players scored on an error in the first inning then notched four more runs in third and fourth innings. Cali Maki supplied a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Katie Goelz knocked in a home run. Amber Klug led the Irish going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Maki earned the win on the mound, surrendering two runs on three hits in seven innings and striking out seven.

The Irish secured the CMC championship on Friday, May 18 with 18-0 and 25-4 wins over the Paynesville Bulldogs.

Olivia Paumen drove in five runs and went 2-for-3 at the plate in that first game. She drove in runs on a double in the second and a home run in the third.
