Irish softball team wins two games in section tourney

After a first-game bye, the No. 1 seed, 22-0, Irish softball team cruised to its first Section 5AA Tournament win of the season on Tuesday, May 22, when the girls took on No. 9 seed Watertown-Mayer at home.

The Irish dominated the Royals 10-1. Two days later, on Thursday, May 24, the Irish notched their second win of the tournament when they defeated No. 4 seed Rockford at Rockford 10-0, putting them in reach of yet another state berth going into the final games this week. The Irish were scheduled to take on No. 2 seed Norwood- Young America on Tuesday, May 29 at Rockford. Results were not available at press time. From there they would move on to the final contest on Thursday, May 31, also in Rockford. Play starts at 4 p.m. Should they win, the Irish will make their second undefeated appearance at state at Caswell Park in North Mankato June 7-8.
