Lakers open with 13-2 win over Montrose

Montrose/Waverly 2 Maple Lake 13

Maple Lake fans could not have asked for a better day Sunday as the sun was out, the temperature was up (especially compared to three weeks ago) and the Lakers kicked off their season in dominating fashion. Derek Rachel got the openingday start and retired three Stingers in order. Riley Decker capitalized with a lead-off single that started his trip around the bases for the first run of the season. Rachel kept Montrose off the board until they tied it in the third but the Lakers answered right back when Matt Bergstrom reached on an error and was brought in by a Brian Redemske sacrifice. Bergstrom and Redemske were at it again in the fourth, this time hitting singles for one and two RBI’s, respectively. Luke Fobbe came in to pitch in the fifth and padded his lead in the bottom of the frame with a two-RBI double. Maple Lake kept adding runs and with little response from Montrose. The game ended in seven. Almost every Laker batter was involved in scoring a run, including the subs, in a true team effort on offense.

The Lakers host Cokato on Friday the May, 11 at 7:30 p.m. then play them in Cokato on May 16 at 7:30 p.m.
