Maple Lake softball team continues its perfect run

The Irish softball team is 17-0 after four games in two outings last week.

Maple Lake came up with a 16-0 win over Central Minnesota Conference foe Belgrade- Brooten-Elrosa in a doubleheader on the road to start the series, Thursday, May 10.

Linsey Rachel sparked a three- run first inning with a homer to score two runs. It was her first of three home runs of the game. The Irish put up four more runs in the second, one in the fourth and eight in the fifth inning. Rachel, Calli Maki and Katie Goelz all hit homeruns in the Irish’s big fifth inning. Elli Jude and Lucy Greenhagen singled and Amber Klug had a sacrifice fly.

Maki earned the win on the mound allowing no hits and no runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking none.

Bryn Elsenpeter allowed two runs in an 8-2 victory over B-B-E in game two of Thursday evening’s doubleheader. The Irish put up its first two runs in the first inning on an error. Maki, Goelz and Mollie Scheiber drove in runs in the second inning to boost the Irish lead to 6-0.

B-B-E scored its two runs in the top of the fourth inning, Maple Lake answered with two of its own in the bottom of that same in- ning to secure the win. Klug led scoring with three hits in three at bats. Rachel stole two bases and Elsenpeter won in the pitching cir- cle. She allowed four hits and two runs while striking out five and walking none.
