ANML’s youth wrestling teams did well at the state tournament, April 5-8 in Rochester.
The 7th and 8th grade teams took 11th place out of 32 teams. In pool play ANML beat PLPRB 24-22, lost to Waconia 12-33, then beat Royalton 25-21 to put them into the third-place bracket. ANML lost a close one to BBE 15-18 then beat Brainerd 24-17.
ANML’s K-6 team took 17th out of 32 teams. They went 4-1 in the state tournament with their only loss to eventual runner-up Northfield, 18- 41.
The ANML team then strung together four wins in a row to finish off with a win against STM-A to win their championship bracket for 17th place. In Pool Play ANML lost to Northfield 18-41, beat UNC 66-13 and Fairbault 44-31 to put them into the fifth place Bracket. ANML then beat Hutchinson 51-21, STM-A 37- 27 to win the fifth-place pool and bring home a trophy.
A total of 20 athletes made it to the state individual tournament which is one of the highest numbers in the program’s history.
