Lakers boast perfect 8-0 league record after two more games

By Matt Brown:

Maple Lake Lakers continued their run through the North Star League with wins against Delano and Hutchinson last week, bringing their league record to a perfect 8-0.

While four of those wins were against teams projected to be in the bottom of the league, the other four were against teams that perennially compete for the league title, including two convincing wins against last year’s champion Hutchinson. Brian Redemske has been leading the way with power and a high average at the plate while Mitch Wurm, Nick Preisinger, and Hunter Malachek all boast sub-2.00 ERAs.

Delano 7 Maple Lake 9

The Lakers hosted Delano Sunday, June 3, in a lop-sided game that ended well for the home team. The Athletics jumped on Mitch Wurm in the first for a pair of runs in the first. Riley Decker and Donnie Mavencamp responded with singles in the bottom of the inning to put up one and keep it close. Wurm settled in and limited Delano to no more than five batters for the next six innings and the offense took full advantage. Matt Bergstrom scored Brian Redemske off a single in the third, followed by a two-run home run from Wurm to go up 4-2. Graham Brown counted as a run in the two-run fourth, then added two RBI’s with a double in the two-run fifth. Nate Maas sacrificed to drive in the last Laker run in the sixth, making it 9-2. Delano came alive in the eighth with four runs and another in the ninth but it was not enough to overcome the hole they were in. Riley Decker had three hits while every Laker batter contributed a run or an RBI.
