Local athletes recognized for college achievements

With the conclusion of 2017- 18, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) recognized student-athletes for their performance both on the field of play and in the classroom with 460 individuals earning the Academic All-Conference distinction for the winter and spring seasons. Added to 508 athletes honored in the fall, the UMAC awarded a record total of 968 academic awards this year surpassing the previous record set a year ago, the conference office announced.

Locally, Ellie Haney, a Maple Lake High School graduate and softball player for the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth and Jarod Wilken, an Annandale High School graduate and basketball player for the College of St. Scholastica were named to the Academic All- UMAC List last fall.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious honor.
