Maple Lake Brewfest; a barrel of fun

By Brenda Erdahl:

Maple Lake’s annual Brewfest is back for its fourth season Saturday, June 16, at Irish Stadium where 30- plus vendors and hundreds of enthusiastic taste-testers will gather for music, food, and of course, beer.

With an initial fee at the door or a ticket purchased in advance, visitors receive a mug, a score card, a poker chip, and a selection of more than 90 craft beers available for sampling.

The mug is for tasting, the score card is for keeping track of favorite brews, and the poker chip is for voting, Maple Lake City Clerk Lee Ann Yager said.

Last year Fargo Brewing Co. ousted two-time returning champion Spilled Grain of Annandale for the Taster’s Choice Award by winning the most votes.

Put on by the City of Maple Lake, organizers try their best to bring in local brewers. Last year Millner Heritage Winery and Cidery from Kimball attended with their selection of craft beers and wines and will return this year along with Third Street Brewhouse of Cold Spring, and Lupulin Brewing of Big Lake to name a few. Aegir Brewing of Elk River is one of the newcomers.
