Torkelson joins race for Sheriff

By Brenda Erdal:

A fifth candidate has announced his intention to run for Wright County Sheriff.

Chad Torkelson joins Stacy Braun, Mike Kaczmarek, Sean De- ringer, and Drew Scherber in run- ning for the position that became available last winter when current sheriff Joe Hagerty announced he would not run for re-election.

Torkelson was raised on a dairy farm in central Minnesota where he learned family values as well as hard work, he said. After graduat- ing from Kerkhoven-Murdock- Sunburg (KMS) High School in 1992, Torkelson joined the US Navy. He served two years active duty in Guam on board the USS San Jose and the USS Niagara Falls. After the military he returned home to central Minnesota. He started school and worked three part-time jobs, one of which was an active reservist for the US Navy out of St. Paul. He was also a bar- tender, construction worker, farmer, and hot tar and rubber roofer.

In 1998 Torkelson married his wife Jennifer and had two children: Cole is a junior at St. Michael-Al-bertville High School and Logan is an 8th grader at St Michael Catholic School. Torkelson is also a member of the St. Michael Legion.
