Wright County 4-H received a $2,300 grant from Compeer Financial during this year’s Wright County Fair to update its food
stand. Above, 4-H members, volunteers and staff accept the check from Compeer Financial, Financial Officer Becky Sheel Lang
during fair week, July 18-21. Compeer Financial, a member-owned Farm Credit cooperative serving and supporting agriculture
and rural communities, awarded 64 Fair Facility Grants totaling $180,000 to support fairground enhancement projects in Illinois,
Minnesota and Wisconsin. “Compeer Financial proudly supports local and county fairs across our Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin
territory, recognizing the important role they play in youth development, and in celebrating agricultural heritage and
rural life,” John Monson, chair of Compeer Financial’s Fund for Rural America said. The grant program is designed to help fund
upgrades and repairs of fairgrounds and facilities so fairs can continue to offer the best possible experience to fair-goers year
after year. The Wright County 4-H program used the grant to upgrade decades old cash registers to tablets with new cash drawers.
The new system will allow younger members to serve as cashiers and learn customer service skills with more confidence,
Wright County 4-H Program Coordinator Justin Crowley said. The group also made updates to their signs displayed on the
building and to the interior layout.
