ROLAND “SKIP” JOHNSON, Maple Lake

Roland “Skip” Johnson, age 74, of Annandale died on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 as a result of an auto accident. Memorial Services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, August 20, 2018 at Lake Union Evangelical Covenant Church, 74246 CSAH 19, South Haven with visitation one hour prior. A Celebration of Skip’s life will follow at Madigan’s Pub and Grill in Maple Lake from 1-3 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date at Sunset Cemetery in St. Anthony. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Skip’s name to Lake Union Church or to the charity of your choice. Roland Cornelius Johnson was born August 8, 1943 in St. Paul to Roland and Evelyn (Cornelius) Johnson and grew up in Highland Park. Skip served in the US Army National Guard from 1961-1964. He lived on Lake Francis near South Haven while his children were young and moved to Annandale in 1983. He has hosted family and friends at his home for the Independence Day celebration in Annandale since moving to town. Skip worked as a liquor salesman and distributor for Griggs Cooper & Company and Wirtz Beverage for 37 years, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Buffalo American Legion. He enjoyed target shooting, scuba diving, boating and was an avid Harley Davidson rider. In retirement he became interested in electronics, gadgets and technology. Skip is survived by his two daughters & their husbands Tara & Mac Nelson of Brooklyn Park and Jill & Carr Muirhead of Carnation, WA; five grandchildren Alexis, Claire, Andre, Reid and Kate; and significant other Bobbi Behlke of Maple Lake. He is preceded in death by his parents. The urn bearers will be Randy Smith, Tom Wilcox, Mac Nelson and Carr Muirhead. Pastor Brent Stromme will officiate at the Memorial Service.
