Runners bring home hardware at CC banquet

The Maple Lake High School cross country teams held an award ceremony, Monday, Nov. 12, after a successful season that saw three individual athletes earn a state meet berth. Pictured at left, back row, from left are, Jeffrey Henrikson, Michael Miller and Ben Lewis. Henrikson earned several awards including CMC Athlete of the Week, All-Central Minnesota Conference and the Came Out With a Bang award. Henrikson also holds the fifth all-time fastest 5K for the Irish program. Miller earned Most Valuable Runner honors, was a CMC Athlete of the Week, was All-Conference, Academic All-Conference, holds the third all-time fastest 5K for the program, was Academic All-State and a state meet qualifier finishing 46th out of 176. Lewis was named Most Improved, Hardest Worker, was Academic All-Conference and holds the 15th all-time fastest 5K. Not pictured, but achieving Academic All-Conference honors were Wyatt Jacobs and Ben Reilley. Five seniors were also honored, they are Caleb Benek, Sean Cranston, Jackson Gallagher, Jacobs and Miller. As a team, the boys finished fifth in the CMC, were 11th overall in the section and earned the Gold Team Academic Award for holding an average GPA of 3.75-plus. DeMarais was a CMC Athlete of the Week, All-Conference, Academic All- Conference, state qualifier who finished 85th out of 176 and Academic All-State. Mergen was voted Hardest Worker, was Academic All-Conference and holds the 6th all-time fastest 5K. Pribyl was named Most Improved, Most Valuable Runner, was a CMC Athlete of the Week, All-Conference, Academic All-Conference, holds the 2nd all-time fastest 5K, was a state meet qualifier who finished 25th out of 176 and earned All-State honors. Four seniors were also honored, they are Mergen, Ashley Carlson, Gracie Elsenpeter and Bionca Peterson. Not pictured but holding the 9th all-time fastest 5K is Eva McClelland and not pictured but holding the 10th all-time fastest 5K is Kate Graham. Not picture but earning Academic All-Conference were Peterson, Elsenpeter, Josie Wagner, Grace Heying, Sammi Wasserman, Mary Miller, McClelland and Grace Praska.
