The Maple Lake boys’ basketball team suffered two losses on the road last week.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Irish traveled to Cathedral to take on the non-conference Crusaders and fell 58-43.

On Thursday, Feb. 20, the Irish lost a close game to Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa. The final score was 55-51.

Cathedral

Jackson Berscheid was the first to light up the scoreboard against Cathedral, Tuesday, with a three-point bucket. Ryley Hagen followed with another basket from two-point range to give the Irish a 5-0 lead. The Crusaders answered with a two-point bucket of their own.

The Irish were leading 10-6 when Cathedral started coming back. The Crusaders took a 17-15 lead with 7:25 left in the half. They stretched that to 23-18 by the break.

Cathedral continued to pull away in the second half as the Irish struggled to find an offensive rhythm.

“Offensively we couldn’t really find a rhythm.  We did okay taking care of the ball, we just couldn’t consistently get shots to fall,” Irish Head Coach Tim Staloch said.

Defensively, the Irish committed nine steals that generated 11 points.

Jackson Berscheid led with 11 points; Aiden Staloch supplied nine points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Ben Clapp had eight points.
