MLE teacher gets a heartwarming surprise

“My heart is so full right now”

Teacher appreciation week has new meaning since educators have taken on the challenge of distance learning.

What was once familiar has become unknown territory. The children that motivate them are miles away and even the best technology can’t bridge the distance.

In a job that’s already challenging these new hurdles make it extra important that these valuable members of the community are recognized. Last week, during the nationally recognized Teacher Appreciation Week, one family went the extra mile to show their gratitude to the teacher who has been so influential in their student’s life.

Rachel and Travis Erger were the masterminds behind a surprise, Tuesday, May 5, that filled the heart of Maple Lake Elementary kindergarten teacher Annie Jost.

“My husband Steve asked if I wanted to sit outside on the porch after supper and since it was a little chilly I had my blanket and we were just relaxing. Then all of a sudden I hear horns honking and cheering and here comes the parade,” said Jost.

The Ergers, who’s daughter Hailey is in Mrs. Jost’s class had orchestrated a car parade past Jost’s home in rural Annandale.

“They got in contact with other parents and emailed them all lining this up.  One of the parents contacted my husband Steve and they coordinated a time.  So, he knew about it too, stinker!,” Jost said.

Around 7 p.m. cars began to pull into Jost’s circular driveway. There were eight in all. Many were decorated with balloons, posters and window paints and all were filled with students from Mrs. Jost’s class eager to see their teacher.
