Maple Lake Schools are leaders in alternative energy

By Brenda Erdahl

In 2017, Maple Lake Schools took its first steps toward a more environmentally friendly and efficient way of producing electricity when it installed its first array of solar panels on the school roof.

Since they were put in place, the district has already seen savings, Supt. Mike Rowe said.

Building on that success, officials decided to install more solar panels on the roofs of both the high school and elementary school this summer. When completed, the Maple Lake School District will have one of the largest sets of solar panels of any public school in Minnesota.
