Residents have mixed feelings about face mask covering order

People in Maple Lake have mixed feelings about Governor Tim Walz’s most recent executive order that requires Minnesotan’s to wear a face covering in indoor businesses and indoor public settings.

Walz made the announcement on Wednesday, July 22 and the following Saturday it went into effect, but by Thursday, July 23, faces were already looking a lot more covered in Maple Lake, especially at one of the town’s busiest stores, Dollar General.

Samara Cates who is a cashier at Dollar General said it’s good, but a little late.

Close to 400 customers visit the store on a daily basis, Cates said. Before the Governor’s mandate, she guessed about 3/4ths didn’t wear masks, and social distancing? “That doesn’t happen,” she said.
