The Maple Lake girls cross country team easily won their first outing of the season, Friday, Sept. 4 at home at Ney Park despite a modified format that limited spectators and ran races in sessions so no more than three teams were present at the same time.
Led by senior Augusta DeMarais, who won in 20:46.27 and junior Sophie Pribyl, who was runner-up in 20:57.97, the team tallied a mere 28 points for first place at the seven-team pre-conference meet. Holdingford followed distantly with 62 points and Royalton was third with 69.
