Logan Carlson and Mary Miller crowned homecoming king and queen

By Brenda Erdahl

After not knowing whether there would be a homecoming or coronation at all this year followed by a week’s postponement, Maple Lake’s homecoming king and queen have finally been crowned.

Logan Carlson and Mary Miller received the honor Monday morning, Nov. 16, at a brief ceremony before a small group of masked parents in the high school auditorium. Because of the pandemic, the rest of the school and people at home were invited to watch a live broadcast of the event.

The ceremony began at 9 a.m. with a brief silence in remembrance of classmate Alex Vogt-Wurm who was killed in a dirt bike accident just a week earlier. Coronation was originally supposed to take place last Monday, Nov. 9, but was postponed out of respect for Wurm’s family and friends.

After that solemn moment, the tone quickly changed to one of anticipation as the 10 candidates filed onto the stage. Jack Klug and Dani Geyen were the first couple to emerge. They were followed by Megan Lind escorted by Logan Carlson, Lex Bakeberg escorted by Sam Riviere; Mary Miller escorted by Noah Beffel and Lyndsie Carlson escorted by Charlie Berndt.
