Generosity abounds at the Maple Lake library fundraiser

By Brenda Erdahl:
There was plenty of generosity to go around at the Maple Lake Library’s annual fundraiser, Saturday, Oct. 2 at the V by HH
Harney Heeralall catered the chicken and beef dinner and with the help of several high school volunteers and Maple Lake Junior Princess Kora Hiltner, served a total of 112 meals.
The live auction featured 19 items, which is more than in years past, organizer Vicki Decker said, and the silent auction featured 68 beautifully put together baskets. All received generous bids, in fact, the fundraiser drew in more donations in almost every area than in years past.
Auctioneer Kirk Asplin kept the audience entertained and the live auction moving. The king-sized quilts hand-made by the Prairie Star Quilt Guild were particularly popular on the live auction as was the Harry Potter book series, Decker said. The Shop Local package, filled with gift cards from several businesses in town also drew a lot of interest.
“He (Asplin) did a wonderful job. He was entertaining and kept the auction moving even though there were a lot of items,” Decker said.
