Maple Lake school administration is asking parents to communicate with their children about the dangers of social media after a national TikTok scare last week that closed a handful of schools in Minnesota and put everybody, even in Maple Lake on edge.
According to the Pioneer Press, Minnesota schools received 29 threats revolving around a TikTok trend that threatened violence at schools specifically on Friday, Dec. 17. Maple Lake parents received an email Thursday, Dec. 16 describing how none of the threats were substantiated.
“After consultation with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office and completing an investigation, there is no indication that any of the Maple Lake Schools are involved in this social media threat,” the email from Maple Lake Administration said.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) likewise concluded that in Minnesota, local and state law enforcement did not identify the threat as credible. In Maple Lake school went on as usual, but with some extra precautions including the presence of several Wright County Deputy cars stationed in the school parking lot when busses arrived in the morning. Additionally, some students didn’t attend school because of the concern.
