After missing a state meet appearance last year by half an inch, this spring Maple Lake High School discus thrower Natalie Neumann is going on.
Neumann punched her ticket to the State Track and Field Meet by finishing second at the section finals held at St. John’s University, Wednesday, June 1. Neumann was one of a handful of Irish athletes to qualify for sections, but the only one to advance to state.
“Last year she was third in both shot put and discus throw, so it was great to see her make it,” said Irish Head Coach Ben Youngs.
The senior almost advanced in the shot put too. She was leading with two throwers to go, but on their final throws, they both passed her.
