Wright Tech Student of the Quarter – Neveah Lindsey

Choir students from Maple Lake High School performed at the Vocal Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Holy Family Catholic High School on Monday, April 11. They received either a superior or an excellent rating from a judge. The results were as follows: Superior rating was given to Mattie Muller, Mackenzie Gunderson and Eva McClelland for singing a solo. Trinity Hughes, Josie Niemiec, Mitchell Koss, Zach Pribyl, Eva McClelland and Emma Jost received a superior rating performing their ensemble. An excellent rating was given to Elizabeth Borgert, Mady Payne, Haley Phothisanh, and Trinity Hughes for singing a solo.

Four choir members that performed at Gustavus Adolfus on Monday:  Hope Jude, Eva McClelland, Haley Phothisanh, and Cadence Pipenhagen.

Congratulations to Greta Brown (5th) and Calli Hadler (6th)  for being finalists at the Speech State Meet. This is the first finalists for Maple Lake since 2014.

Congratulations to  Suzie Walz, Colton Ellingson, and Lena Bougie for being selected to the All-State Band.

On record, this is the most students selected in Maple Lake High School history.

Congratulations to Olivia, Greta, Alison, and Calli being named the Maple Lake Students of Excellence.

We are so thankful for all of our amazing staff at Maple Lake Public Schools. The last two school years have had many challenges and our staff has continued to rise to the challenge to meet the needs of our students.

7. Open Forum- Holly Schrupp represented teachers present and addressed the board regarding the resignation of head basketball coach Casey Pack.  The teachers were present to show support for Casey Pack and made a recommendation that each coach has feedback from the AD post season recapping what went right and what could be improved upon going forward.

8. Unfinished Business

8.A. Melissa Hansen Executive Director at MAWSECO.  Hansen gave an overview of MAWSECO special education services including programs, residential care and treatment facilities.  MAWSECO is funded by federal funds from member districts, tuition billing and purchased services and works to break even each year by appealing to MDE to cover shortfalls.

8.B. Food Service Report-Ryan Highberg and Tyson Simmons.  Highberg gave 2021-22 statistics on meals served with 41,253 breakfasts and 88,705 lunches served.  The All American Bar and Taco Bar have been popular.  Highberg offered students samples of some unique items under the Food for Thought program with Greek Chicken Salad being the winner.  Simmons said the CPI increase for 2022-23 will be 7.7%.

9.B. Summer Building Projects Update-Neutz listed projects.  Along with parking lot project: boiler valve and tank replacement, media and roof tiles, foods room floor replacement-polished concrete and cabinets with new aluminum windows in that area of building with asbestos abatement.

9.C. Legislative Update; Rowe attended a virtual rally to help lower the special education cross subsidy.  Frontline Worker pay passed for educational staff. The House bill has been passed.

9.D. May State of the School Update-Rowe listed the projects that are complete or will be completed by summer.

10. Representative Reports

10.A. District Leadership Team-Rowe reported they are finalizing structure and speaker for next year

10.B. ECFE/Community Education – Helmbrecht reported spring gymnastics and ninja classes are full, track and field cap has 30 participants, summer ball registration is open.  Many community education classes were popular and will be offered again in summer and fall.  Fitness center is taking enrollments for memberships.  Preschool has 48 students registered for fall.  Kidville has over 80 students enrolled and summer trips are all booked.

10.C. Food Service Committee- no report

10.D. Meeker and Wright Special Ed Co-Op-no report

10.E. Minnesota State High School League – Helmbrecht reported that the Holy Spirit Co-op was approved.  May 27th is the deadline for schools to register next year’s sports-no changes for Maple Lake.

10.F. Safe Schools Committee-Rowe said a discussion on truancy took place.

10.G. Technology Committee-Mavencamp said student chromebooks are being collected and wireless controllers ordered this school year will be here in the fall.

10.H. Wright Technical Center -Benson said the green house plant sale is still going on this next weekend.  The open house was successful.  WTC will roll out EMR/EMT and welding courses.

10.I. Elementary School – Sawatzke reported MCA testing is complete and NWEA will begin next week.  Spring has been busy with many activities:  Music programs, 6th grade Festival of Nations, 6th grade Wolf Ridge trip, Track and Field day on May 20th and Kindergarten and 6th grade graduations will be held in May.  June 3 is the last day of school.

10.J. High School – Dave Hansen

High School – Sawatzke reported for Hansen.  MCA testing is wrapping up.  End of the year activities include 7th and 8th grade choir concerts, Irish Pride celebrations at the Skating Place and Valleyfair, 9th grade science and robotics fair and Senior awards night will be on June 1.  Graduation is June 3 at 8:00 p.m.
