Summer Saints program fills daycare gap for local families

Anyone with young children knows how hard it is to find quality daycare and if you live in a small town like Maple Lake, it’s even harder.

“There are no centers in Maple Lake and a lot of home daycares shut down because of COVID,” said Alicia Christenson.

Christenson is one of five St. Timothy preschool teachers who run a new summer childcare program for working parents called Summer Saints. What’s great about the program is it’s both educational and faith based, said Christenson.

School run summer childcare programs like this one are becoming more common as districts seek to help parents bear the burden of the long break. St. Timothy had plans to get their summer program up and running a few years ago, but then COVID hit, and everything was stalled, Christenson said.
