Shear Attitudes Salon moves to old Ertel building

By Brenda Erdahl

For 16 years Connie Munstenteiger has been cutting, curling and styling hair, and most of that time she’s worked from her shop, Shear Attitudes Salon, on the corner of Division Street West and Maple Avenue North.

She’s befriended perfect strangers over the wash basin and made dedicated, return clients out of many of them. Over the years she’s offered a variety of services out of her shop, including massages, but after more than a decade in that location, she is looking to downsize.

Earlier this month, Munstenteiger moved her business to 63 Birch Ave South, Suite 2 in what used to be part of the Ertel family residence. Generations of the Ertel family lived in the residence and operated Ertel Drug out of the front of the building where Book Break is now. Shear Attitudes Salon is located in the southeast corner. Just follow the red sidewalk between Book Break and Pagel Law Office.

The space was recently remodeled by Scott Chantland and Patricia Murray and provides a serene atmosphere for Munstenteiger to continue to her work in a smaller space and at a more relaxed pace.

Instead of looking out her windows at a busy intersection, she now sees a wooded backyard where birds sing and rabbits play. She said she loves the natural environment and the lack of “chaos.”
