Something different at MLHS

By Brenda Erdahl

“There is nothing else like this in Maple Lake schools,” said Anna McClelland, a fourth year member of the Maple Lake High School Robotics team, the Shambots. She knew nothing about coding when she joined the newly formed team as a freshman, but she had a lot of fun, gained confidence, and learned a lot, and that’s the beauty of the program.

“You can come in as a freshman or a senior and know nothing, and we will find something for you to do,” her teammate Grace Fritz said. “You can’t do that with other activities (like basketball or baseball) there is too much of a learning curve.”

This year the Shambots were one of the smallest teams at the Duluth Regional with only seven members, but they had a lot of fun, and their “bot” did exactly what they intended it to do, which is an accomplishment in itself.
