Landon Salmela completed a 35-yard pass from Luke Goelz to give the Irish its lone touchdown in Maple Lake’s 30-8 loss to Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, Thursday, Aug. 31 at home.

ACGC struck first in Maple Lake’s first official outing of the season with a touchdown in the first quarter. A successful two-point conversion gave the Falcons an 8-0 lead.

The Falcons scored again in the third quarter and twice in the fourth. Maple Lake’s touchdown came in the final quarter.

“Our coaching staff thought our boys played well for three quarters on Thursday night,” Irish Head Coach Mike Rowe said. “Offensively, we missed some opportunities early that could have changed the outcome of the game. For our first game with our young team, we did a lot of good things. We need to build on these for Friday so we can beat Paynesville.”
