The well coached, hard running Royalton handed the Irish football team a painful 50-0 loss, Friday, Sept. 15 at Irish Country Stadium.
The Irish had some good opportunities but couldn’t quite put it all together. The Royals scored early in the first quarter, and it was downhill from there. By the end of the first quarter the visitors held an 8-0 lead.
Maple Lake Quarterback Luke Goelz threw 27 yards, three of them complete plus two interceptions. Landon Salmela went 1 for 21 yards receiving and Danny Reilley went 2 for 8 yards.
Reilley went 90 yards rushing on 17 attempts.
This week the Irish celebrate homecoming with the big game against Holdingford on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. Holdingford is 3-0 with wins over Sauk Centre, Royalton and St. Cloud Cathedral. Many activities lead up to the game including a school-wide pep rally Friday afternoon. A dance follows the game at 9:15 p.m.
